Trauma & PTSD Therapy
When something that happened is still affecting how you feel, work, relate or live.
Trauma does not always look like crisis.
You may be functioning well and managing work, relationships and responsibilities, while privately experiencing anxiety, difficult memories, disturbed sleep, hypervigilance or a sense that you can never quite relax.
Sometimes there is one experience you cannot seem to put behind you. Sometimes it is the cumulative impact of difficult experiences, loss, responsibility or years of pressure.
And sometimes you understand perfectly well why you feel as you do, but understanding alone hasn't changed how you feel.
How I work with trauma
I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist with specialist training in trauma therapy, somatic approaches and EMDR.
Trauma can affect more than our thoughts and memories. It can influence the body, nervous system, emotions, relationships and our sense of safety.
We begin by understanding what is happening now and establishing the safety and resources needed to work well together. Where appropriate, we can then work with experiences and patterns that remain unresolved.
I integrate relational psychotherapy with trauma-focused, somatic and EMDR approaches, adapting the work to you.
The aim is not to erase the past, but to help it have less power over the present — giving you greater freedom and choice in how you live now.
You don't need to be in crisis
Many of the people I work with have spent a long time coping.
Trauma and distress don't disappear simply because we are able to function. Therapy offers somewhere to stop carrying it alone and begin to work with what hasn't yet shifted.
Sessions
In person in Mid Devon and online across the UK.
Sessions are usually weekly or fortnightly.
